NCL in Action 2024 – ‘Moving On Up: Empowering our communities to reach their potential’

Unite with fellow students, alumni and University colleagues this March to raise aspirations amongst young people.

We believe that everyone should have access to equal opportunities to help them develop personally and professionally, no matter their background. To help us in this mission, we’re joining forces with the Newcastle United Foundation throughout the whole of March to offer a series of events, volunteering opportunities and fundraising challenges to our university community. Will you join us?

The action will begin with a launch day on Friday 1 March 2024 at the home of Newcastle United Football Club, St. James’ Park. Throughout the day you can enjoy a free lunch, listen to a keynote lecture and develop your debating skills by contributing your thoughts to an interactive, showcase debate on the motion “This house believes that education is the most powerful tool to achieve your potential”. Find out more and register here.

With a jam-packed schedule throughout the month, there is so much you can get involved in. Here are a few ideas below:

Did you secure your university place via the PARTNERS programme? If so, watch out for an email inviting you to an event on Friday 1 March, 18:00 – 21:00 (GMT) to celebrate 25 years of the programme. For now, save the date and time in your diary.

Did you go to a school in the North East of England? If so, you could help to raise aspirations by reconnecting with your former primary or secondary school to share your experience of studying at university and offer advice to school pupils who feel university isn’t for them. Find out more

Do you have experience as a caregiver or young carer? If so, you could be a positive role model to inspire other young carers to realise their potential. Find out more

Step into action! Climb the equivalent of Ben Nevis, Mount Fuji or Mount Everest over 31 days whilst raising money for the Newcastle Student Fund. Your fundraising efforts will support current and future generations of Newcastle students to overcome the steep hurdles they face in reaching their potential. Take on the challenge

Be inspired by our alumni changemakers. Meet the Newcastle alumni taking action in their personal and professional lives to raise aspirations and ensure everyone has access to the same opportunities, whatever their background. Read the Alumni Changemaker profiles
