Business School Student-Staff Committee runners-up in NUSU awards

The Student Rep Awards are part of NUSU’s Celebrating Success Awards scheme and aim to recognise Student Reps who have excelled in their efforts to enhance the University experience for themselves and their peers. The Student-Staff Committee of the Year Award is awarded to the SSC that has consistently demonstrated exemplary practice over the course of the academic year.

The judges for this category this year were Jack Green (NUSU Welfare & Equality Officer 2018/19) and Joe Barton (NUSU Representation & Research Coordinator). In considering the supporting nomination for the Business School PGR SSC, Jack and Joe were impressed by the SSC’s recent achievements, which included:

Working with the PGR Director to change the School’s research funding policy.

  • Working with the PGR Director to allow PGR students to attend two training sessions and two conferences per year on a first come, first served basis.
  • Organising, and securing funding for, a three-day training workshop on Machine Learning and R software.

It was clear to Jack and Joe that the SSC had worked effectively to improve the experience for PGR students in the Business School and were deserving of the Runner-Up Award. This was announced at the Student Rep Awards ceremony on 13 May at Venue, Students’ Union building. A list of all of the winners and runners up from this year’s Awards can be found here.
