Top 5 Things to do in Newcastle over the summer

NE1’s Screen on The Green is a summertime staple in the heart of Newcastle. During this six-week period (22 July – 1 September 2019), enjoy over 80 free open-air movies and cheer on a series of international sporting events from a large deck chair in Old Eldon Square. Restaurant Week

Newcastle Restaurant Week is a week where various restaurants around Newcastle offer special discounts throughout the week. A wide range of restaurants take part, meaning there are so many different cuisines to choose from whether you’re looking for something specific or want to try lots of new flavours! The deals that the restaurants offer are some of the best you will find in Newcastle – so make sure you take advantage of this week to try places you’ve always wanted to! The week runs from 05 August – 11 August 2019 and all of the restaurants taking part including their offers can be found here.

Seaside by the Quayside

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside – oh I do like to be beside… Newcastle Quayside Seaside! Get ready to feel the sand between your toes with the NE1 Newcastle Quayside Seaside returns this May 2019 until October 2019. 

One of Newcastle and Gateshead’s most iconic spaces (the Quayside) is transformed every year into a seaside paradise complete with deckchairs, palm trees, candy-striped beach huts and golden sand!

Soak up the sun with a stunning view or enjoy building a sandcastle in the city centre! Recline in the sunshine on a brand new astro-turf area equipped with additional seating, giant outdoor games and an area designed to welcome a roster of street food vendors. Kick back, relax and while away a summer’s day in this city centre oasis.

As part of its support, Northumbrian Water is planning a range of fun and interactive activities on the Quayside Seaside to keep beachgoers hydrated and entertained including yoga and pilates. The Northumbrian Water team will work with local businesses to offer free water re-filling stations in the surrounding area.

Game On 2.0 at the Life Centre

Game On 2.0 explores the vibrant history, culture and future of gaming, entertainment and technology through more than 150 playable games. Play a range of games from arcade classics to modern favourites, including fun party games, such as Rock Band 3. The exhibition also explores the latest developments in gaming, including how virtual reality is creating ever-more immersive gaming experiences. This exhibition runs from 25 May – 04 September 2019 and tickets are priced at just £11 for Students!

Beach Days

Take advantage of the 4 stunning local beaches we have in the area! There’s the most well-known beach; Tynemouth. With its fine beach, great restaurant options and attractions such as Blue Reef Aquarium. The other 3 beaches that are perhaps less known amongst students are South Shields, North Shields and Whitley Bay. All 3 of these beaches offer fantastic days out! Whether it’s just a stroll with your mates along the beachfront or an action packed day, all of these beaches can offer you this, so why not try a different one or all of them while the weather is nice?!
