Are you tired of having the same old food all the time? Would you like to try some new flavours and discover great places for quick lunch in walking distance from the Business School? Yes? In that case, keep reading!
1. Zaap Thai Street Food
Located just 5 minutes away, this restaurant offers vibrant Thai street food. But it’s not just the food that makes you come back. The interior of this place is amazing and will make you feel like you just stepped onto the streets of Bangkok! You can even enjoy food with your friends while sitting in a tuk-tuk. I’m sure you will love their excellent lunch menu – 2 courses for £10 available Monday-Friday from 12:00 – 17:00. Their menu has plenty of vegetarian options as well! Make sure to try their Massaman curry! If you have a sweet tooth, you can pay and extra £2.50 and try one of their desserts. Why not treat yourself with a custard-filled pancake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side? If you want to go there after lunch hours, you can take advantage of Curry Mondays or Pad Thai Tuesdays where you get the main course + beer or a soft drink just for £10.View this post on Instagram
2. Dumpling and bun
One of the Grainger market’s “hidden” gems. This little corner shop is definitely the most budget-friendly place on this list! Go there when you’re in a rush and want something to take away (unfortunately it’s quite hard to get a seat since they have only two chairs). The ladies, who make everything from scratch in front of you are super welcoming, and if you don’t know what to have, they give you great advice. If you want to save some pennies, you can opt for one of their meal deals (e.g. 6 dumplings and a bun for £5). I enjoyed all of the dumpling flavours, but my favourite (surprisingly) was the Tofu & Vegetable one. And if you fancy a dessert after savoury dumplings, try the sweet Smashed Bean bun as well. If you become one their regular customer, don’t forget to ask for their loyalty card!

3. Umai Mi
This oriental restaurant is a perfect place when you want to treat yourself (it’s not the cheapest, but still won’t ruin your monthly budget). I always go there to enjoy their lunch menu. 2 courses for £11.50 (available Sunday – Thursday, 11:00 – 17:30 pm) and for just £3.50 more, you can have a third course as well. You can pick either one “Small Eat” or “Dessert”, and one “Big Eat”. I intentionally didn’t use term starter and main because they are bringing the food to the table when it’s ready so it might happen you get your main first. If you’re a sushi lover, make sure to try their Salmon Sakura Roll. Once again, I have to give a shout out to tofu (even though I usually don’t enjoy it). Their Fried Tofu in Teriyaki sauce is so tasty, garnished with fresh chilli for the right kick.View this post on Instagram
4. SnackWallah
Another great place in Grainger Market. This little restaurant serves tasty Indian street food for amazing prices! Even though they have plenty of tables, you usually have to ask for a take-away because it’s always crowded (that’s always a good sign). Their menu changes daily, but their curries are usually around £5. If you just want a little snack, they offer a mixed snack platter for only £3 and enjoy mouth watering Bhel Puri, Pani Puri & Channa Chaat.View this post on Instagram
5. The Naked Deli Grey Street
Clean. Healthy. Nutritious. This bistro is my favourite when it comes to healthy food, and it is probably the most dietary requirement friendly place in Newcastle! Their salad bar is changing regularly, so every time you go, you can try a new combination. Their naked bowls are also worth giving a shot! You can rely on their quick service and friendly staff. If you’re in a rush, you can always grab one of their pre-made boxes and lunch is sorted. Warning: this place can quickly become your favourite if you enjoy eating clean. Oh, and one last thing, your wallet won’t cry when you eat there! Prices are very reasonable.View this post on Instagram
