The Top 5 Places to Brunch in Newcastle

What’s better than a brunch with your friends after a week of studying, or a bite to eat with your family as you show them round what Newcastle has to offer. I’ve tried and tested (with great delight) the brunches around town, and here are the 5 best below:

1901 Jesmond

St George’s Terrace, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE2 2DL

A hidden café within a church in the centre of Jesmond, 1901 is the perfect place for a larger get together with long tables and plenty of space. With a large choice on the menu, accompanied by fresh juices and cakes it’s a perfect place for a birthday brunch or a family reunion.

Ernest

1 Boyd Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE2 1AP

Relatively undiscovered, Ernest provides a quirky approach to brunch with a wide range of options, you typically may not expect. Whilst it may not be traditional brunch, it tasted delicious and their generous portions of coffee mean you can end up staying for hours. It’s situated about a 10 minute walk from the library, but definitely worth a visit if you want to try something new. Pictured below is the halloumi and chorizo bowl.

Arlo

Brentwood Ave, West Jesmond, NE2 3DH

Whilst Arlo’s may be best known for their fish finger sandwiches and luxurious hot chocolates, they also score highly on the best places to brunch. Arlo’s offers a warm, and buzzy environment for small groups, situated in West Jesmond its perfect for 2nd and 3rd years, with easy access for metro users.

Quay Ingredient

No 4, Queen Street, Quayside, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 3UG

A cute, cosy café by the Tyne. There’s only about 6 tables here, and it’s nearly almost full, and for good reason. All the options can be fully customised, (as you can see below from the addition of a sausage to the egg’s benedict) and the portion sizes prepare you for a long walk along the river, and fuel you for the big hill back up to town!

Quilliam Brothers

1, Eldon PLace, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 7RD

Famous for it’s wide selection of Tea’s, Quilliam Brothers is an all-round favourite for feeling like you’ve stepped back in time. Situated next to the students union, and only 2 minutes from the library not only can you come here to celebrate birthdays during stressful exam periods, but it’s a great place for when your showing family members around campus.
