Student and Alumni Celebration Evening 2019

Earlier this month, we held our annual Student and Alumni Celebration Evening to congratulate our students and alumni for their outstanding extra-curricular work during this academic year.

The event was held at As You Like It in Jesmond and over 90 students, staff and alumni attended. The attendees included students who have contributed to the School’s additional initiatives such as:

  • Business Ambassadors
  • Peer Mentors
  • Course Reps
  • Placement Students
  • Case Competition Participants
  • GEO Interns
  • Recruitment Call Agents

Also in attendance were alumni who have engaged with the Business School and continue to work with us, going above and beyond. Those individuals were congratulated for their hard work and efforts.

Business School Manager, Helen Miller, gave a speech thanking all in attendance for their contributions this year and presented the award winners with their certificates and prizes.

Award Winners were nominated by members of staff who have worked closely with these students over the past academic year.

Our award categories and winners were as follows:

Most Engaged Business Ambassador – Laura Gasparini

Our Business Ambassadors are our most reliable group of students that were selected from an application process and assist us with all types of tasks throughout the academic year. Throughout the year Laura has always been keen to help out and get involved. From writing blog posts, helping at events, to Instagram takeovers

Biggest Contribution To Our Digital Channels – Nusrat Jahin

Another way our students give back is by writing blog posts to feature on our Student blog and to be shared across our social channels. Nusrat has written some excellent blog posts for the School blog, and has always been proactive in suggesting new blog topics and ideas that she’d like to write

Most Engaged Peer Mentor – Anoosha Vaswani

Our peer mentors play a vital role in helping our new students settle in to University life and act as role models for setting the standards expected of our students. Her mentee noted that Anoosha has been “a great mentor for me from the very beginning of the course and helped me a lot to get used to the city”.

Most Engaged Undergraduate Call Agent – Aman Khanna

Recognises those who have gone above and beyond in call campaigns in helping to assist with recruitment. This award is split into an undergraduate and postgraduate call agent award. Aman has been consistently engaged and enthusiastic as a call agent throughout the year. He has always been willing to go the extra mile to help, and has made a great contribution to the recruitment team.

Most Engaged Postgraduate Call Agent – Xinyu Shang

She has gone above and beyond, a committed call agent, who always offered to start earlier and stay later without being asked. Xinyu has worked with a great attitude, great timekeeping and is a very diligent worker.

Best Post Application Visit Day Worker – Harry Newman

Post application visit days are for our offer holders to gather more information to help them decide which University to select as their first choice. Harry has been a really helpful Business Ambassador this year, especially at the Business School’s Post Application Visit Days. He attended numerous events, and was always willing to help by sharing his personal experience with prospective students and leading tours of the Campus.

Most Engaged Course Rep – Hiba Naval

Is to recognise the hard work that our student representatives do to provide a voice on behalf of all of our students. Hibas has been a great asset to the student community in ensuring student opinions are listened to and acted upon and for always being there for students to talk to about course related issues or areas for improvement.

Most Engaged Placement Student – Milo Maxton

Each year our students have the opportunity to put their learning into practice within industry in order to further their understanding of their course and the means to successfully executing both practical and theoretical work. Originally on study exchange but forced to withdraw from studies due to logistical and personal reasons, Milo diligently searched for a suitable work placement, determined not to suspend studies and waste his year, successfully finding employment at the Galerie Montmartre in Paris.

Most Engaged Global Experience Opportunities Intern – Tom Castle

Each year our students have the opportunity to complete a summer internship abroad for a global company, working and representing the business school maintaining relations with these corporations for future students and internships. Continuing to be engaged with the school’s student facing activities. This included being on question panels during Employability Week and returning to give advice to future GEO Internship Students about his experience and what they can come to expect when they become a GEO Intern. He also promoted the GEO programme on his LinkedIn profile, leading to a mention on BBC news.

The evening was a great success and everyone who attended had the chance to enjoy themselves, celebrating their hard work and efforts with fellow students, staff, and alumni. A huge congratulations to our awards winners, and a massive thank you to everyone that has helped support the Business School in one way or another this year.
