THE FIVE SWANS PUB:
14 St Mary’s Pl, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 7PG
The Five Swans is a Wetherspoons, 2 minutes walk from Haymarket Metro station. Close enough to the library that you can easily sneak off for a study break to enjoy one of their many tea time clubs (Steak club, chicken club, curry club and fish and chips Friday) while not leaving your work for too long that you forgot what you were doing entirely! Also a great spot in the summer as their outdoor seating area is a firm student fav.
THE FORTH HOTEL
Pink Lane, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Tyne And Wear, NE1 5DW
The Forth is close to central station and a bit pricier than spoons, however a perfect place to take your parents when they hop off the train to visit you, as a mix crowd attracts professors and students alike. See here for freshly prepared pub food and great real ales and stunning open fire in the wintertime.
CENTRAL OVEN & SHAKER
8 Neville St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 5EN
Another hotspot close to central station, a great place to take your friends from home straight off the train when they come to Newcastle for the weekend. Any bookings made between 3-6pm or 9-11pm allow for 50% student discount, everyone is always up for pizza and at £3.50, who can say no!
TURTLE BAY
The Gate, 117 Newgate St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 5RZ
A busy student hangout just 5 minutes’ walk from the business school. The Caribbean inspired food is an exciting change from a meal deal and comes in at affordable prices. From spicy burgers to Caribbean goat curry, there is something for everyone. Keep an eye out for affiliated Newcastle University Business School offers on newsletters etc.
BYRON HAMBURGER
104-108 Grey St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6JG
Byron serve simple, delicious hamburgers, made fresh from properly-sourced British beef, pair with one of their famous extra-thick Oreo shakes and you’re sure to find a lot of happy students. This all tastes even better with their whopping 20% student discount. A great spot close to Monument Metro, with huge windows with a great view to watch Newcastle go by as you become acquainted with the city.
We love these places as the price reflects the bank balance of a typical student, just showing you don’t necessarily have to queue for 2 hours at Eat4Less to enjoy some hot food in Newcastle. Especially when you’re struggling a few weeks before the second loan has entered your bank account!
