Research Support Student Intern

The research support team are responsible for supporting nearly 150 researchers and research leaders across NUBS in the advancement of knowledge. This involves internal and external partner liaison; identifying funding opportunities, development of funding applications, managing the awards and capturing the impact of the research. The team’s remit extends to supporting a robust and varied research culture through research orientated networking, training and marketing activities.

This role would suit a candidate interested in project management, funding and investment or with research ambitions. It is not a post undertaking research or supporting a specific research project but will be a valuable opportunity to learn about the research life cycle and support behind the scenes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

 

  • Assisting with funding opportunity communication
  • Assisting with research marketing (social media and the annual Reach magazine) and publication recording for accreditation purposes
  • Involved in supporting a substantial portfolio of research seminars and training events
  • Coordinating school funded research and impact project calls and their post award management
  • Providing support with key business school events (e.g. induction, freshers’ week, career development week, recruitment open days)
  • Undertaking day to day tasks as deemed necessary by your line manager

Marketing and Communications Student Intern

The Marketing and Communications team are responsible for the management of the Business School’s brand and its communication to internal and external stakeholders. The team has a broad remit covering Marketing, PR, Student Recruitment and Alumni Relations.

The Marketing and Communications student internship is a well-established role and provides the successful candidate with knowledge and experience in all the main areas of marketing.

Main areas of responsibility include:

  • Assisting the team with student communications (including newsletters, website, blog and social media)
  • Supporting key Business School events (e.g. induction week, career development week, recruitment open days)
  • Website development and maintenance  – in particular supporting the launch of the new student microsite
  • Management of the School’s social media channels including content creation – Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Linked In
  • Market research projects – including surveys, running focus groups and desk research
  • Sourcing and writing press releases and web stories to highlight student successes
  • Assisting with the recruitment and conversion of future business students
  • Undertaking day to day tasks as deemed necessary by your line manager

Note: Applicants should be studying a marketing related degree.


 

External Relations Student Intern


The external relations team co-ordinates the school’s international and corporate engagement activities and engages a worldwide audience for the mutual benefit of students, the Business School and Newcastle University. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the delivery of the School’s Employability programme including Global Experience Opportunities (GEO) programme, student case competitions, Employability Week and the high profile Gain a Global Advantage (GaGA) conference
  • Tracking and evaluating the success of the school’s external engagement activities and recoding on the CRM system
  • Liaising with students, providing them with the opportunity to expand their skillset and network with global leaders through targeted promotion
  • Providing support for strategically significant activities that influence decision making at the school –e.g. International Advisory Boards
  • Supporting the delivery of high profile events including the Leadership Series
  • Undertaking day to day tasks as deemed necessary by your line manager

What else do I need to know?

  • These roles are only available to current Stage 2 students of Newcastle University Business School
  • The roles are fixed term contracts for 11 months and is only open to Newcastle University Business School undergraduate students.
  • The role will start on Monday 27th August 2018 – NB. an earlier start date may be negotiated for the Marketing and Communications Student Intern
  • The salary for this role will be £15,718
  • The deadline for applications is midnight on Sunday 8th July
  • We will consider video interviews for candidates who may be overseas at the time of interviews.
  • We may be able to support travel expenses for candidates residing in other areas of the UK who may need to travel to Newcastle for an interview.
